xmame logs out session on exit

I am using xmame (x11) version 0.106 and ubuntu 7.04.
When i run xmame with the -fullscreen option it logs out the session when you exit a game.
When you run a game in a window, it does not log out the session.
How can you stop this happening?

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta or later?
