"no media detected" when converting files

Bug Description
Whenever I try to convert an .mp4 (h.264 encoding) the moment I select an .mp4 I get the error "no media detected. can not convert the file".
I am on Firefox v26, and I believe firefogg is up to date, but can't figure out how to check if there's an update.
