Bug Description

I have a Thinkpad X230T in an Ultrabase Series 3 docking station. If I suspend the laptop when it is docked, undock the laptop, and then try to resume, the keyboard doesn't respond and the mouse cursor does not appear. To reboot the computer, I pull the battery. This is a new computer, with Windows 7 installed on the original SATA drive, and Ubuntu 13.10 on the mSATA drive. Following the pattern in Bug #1258838, if the DVD drive is ejected from the Ultrabase so that it is not present before undocking, the suspend and resume functions normally.

David Ing, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.13

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

David Ing, just to clarify your tag addition, this is fixed in the default Trusty live/installed environment?

The issue seems resolved with today's 14.04 Trusty Tahr Daily Build, running from an ISO on a USB key.

The tags kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.13.0-3-generic have been added.

The tag needs-upstream-testing has been removed.

David Ing, thank you for testing Trusty. Would you need a backport to a release prior to Trusty, or may this be closed as Status Invalid?

Christopher, thanks for the guidance.

Yes, the problem does not appear in Trusty from a Live USB.

For good measure, I have reproduced the error with the Saucy Live USB. After undocking, the keyboard and mouse are locked.

The kernel is Linux ubuntu 3.11.0-12-generic.

Christopher, after thinking about this, I know a workaround -- eject the DVD drive from the docking station -- so it's not worth putting effort into fixing the problem if there isn't one in Trusty ... which was my original target as LTS when it is formally released.

My main reason for filing the bug report was to confirm Bug #1258838 .
