Bug Description

Hi,

The following patch solves the problem of the 88SE9485 controller not being recognized by the kernel:

http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-scsi/msg51816.html

Tested and working on Ubuntu 13.10.

It was suggested to me on #linux on Freenode that I contact the kernel maintainers for the distribution that I use. I hope this is the right place for that.

Best,

Maarten Veenstra

Maarten - I am not sure what problem you are attempting to address. It appears that your SATA control is being detected by AHCI at 6 Gps:

[ 2.165417] ata4: SATA link up 6.0 Gbps (SStatus 133 SControl 300)

Furthermore, the patch mentioned in the bug description was merged with 3.0:

git describe --contains 8214028344b4a38aabf73d95347e1e35538c75f6

Tim,

My apologies, I linked to the wrong patch (that one has been merged, but it also introduced the problem I am attempting to address). The patch I should have included in this bug report is:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2013/09/msg00184.html

(FYI: The SATA controller on my system is being detected because I manually compiled the mvsas module with above patch).

Best,

Maarten Veenstra

Maarten - that patch does not appear to have made it upstream as of 3.13. Perhaps you could hassle Ben to find out the status of this patch.

@Tim: Ben replied around the 18th of Februari that he sent the patch upstream again (for the third time).
I would like for this patch to make it to the next LTS version of Ubuntu, do you think there is a chance this will happen?

I have a related issue.

There is also a 88SE9485 controller on the
ASUS P9A-I/C2550/SAS/4L (Intel Avoton) Server Motherboard also.

lspci ->

01:00.0 RAID bus controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9485 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s controller (rev c3)
02:00.0 RAID bus controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9485 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s controller (rev c3)

In kernel 3.13.0-40-generic moduel mvsas is not loaded.
Also if mvsas is loded with modprobe -v mvsas no disks are identified by the system.
(Applying the patch above makes no difference.)

Is this a new bug report?

Do we have any chance apply this change for 16.04 kernel?
