Bug Description

I got a kernel panic when using dhclient on a certain wifi network.

I use the amd64 version of Gutsy with an Atheros AR5005G wifi card.

The router (and dhcp server) on the network causing the kernel panic seems to be called "Broadband Router" in its configuration file.

For now I don't know wether it is due to the madwifi driver not handling correctly some maybe not conventional ommands the router may sends or maybe dhclient or I don't know what.

When running the dhclient in the first terminal, it gives me alot of kernel messages, I'll paste them here when I'll get acces to my linux logs and to an internet connexion (for now I'm stucked under windows)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delay, I had not seen your answer and I was trying to capture the oops (and I did'nt succeed).

Here are the files your asked for, and a capture of the last screen of the oops, but unfortunately I believe it is much longer than only one screen and I am not sure if this will help a lot.

the unmane -a gives that line :

Linux chameau 2.6.22-9-generic #1 SMP Fri Aug 3 00:20:35 GMT 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

here are the kernel messages that are left after the crash

I tried to take a video from the panic, but it is not really successfull since the reamanence of my screen (lcd) is too high and the frame rate of my camera too slow. So the only thing I got is a blurred thing from the very begining of the oops, maybe I'll try to extract a readable picture from it, but it won't be easy.

I have discovered other ways to provoke the crash, without using dhclient :

  1) I can configure the interface manually, and then if I try to access the router it crashes (pinging is okay but logging into it crashes just after entreing the user credentials)

  2) I can also configure the interface manually and if I try to access the DNS server it will also crash.

Thus I am searching for a way to record the paquets sent to the card when logging to the router under windows, to see if I can replay them under linux in a place where I could have a wired connection or a serial console to be able to capture the oops. I tried with wireshark, but I can't change the link type to 802.11 so I'm not sure the recorded paquets conatins the commands that make the crash, and I do not know how to "replay" thoses paquets under linux.

Best regards

I installed the public beta yesterday and had a panic during installation.
After several panics, I discovered the problem occured only when connected to the network.
So I tried pluging my zd1201 dongle -> OK
Then dhclient3 on the wireless interface -> kernel panic.
Couldn't dump the logs though
