Bug Description

I've installed Cinnamon from the Ubuntu repository, not an external PPA. The desktop comes up and I select the menu. The menu is unusable and the entire desktop then hangs. The mouse moves (though I can't click on anything) and I'm able to do a CRTL/ALT/F3 type of command. The console login works fine and I can reboot.

I am using the Nvidia libraries.

In .xsession-errors I have:

(cinnamon:5868): Cogl-ERROR **: Failed to create an OpenGL framebuffer object

I will attempt to not use the Nvidia drivers and see what happens

Removing the Nvidia driver (nvidia-319-updates) and using the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver makes no difference.

I used Cinnamon on freshly installed 13.04, but now I upgraded (do-release-upgrade) to 13.10 and my experience is similar, after login everything works until I open menu, then desktop freeze, except mouse movements. Creating new accout doesn't help. I am using Intel(R) HD Graphics 2500.

This bug does not occur with Cinnamon 2.0.14 on Ubuntu 13.10. A workaround is to add

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable/ubuntu saucy main

to your repositories. One word of caution though: When I did that, I lost a lot of my settings. This required delving into dconf-editor to repair, because Cinnamon's preferences GUI on Ubuntu is rather confusing. (For instance, in my Preference menu, there are two entries for several items including "Displays" and "Sound".)

Probably this error should get listed in the Release Notes 14.04 ?

This is fixed in Utopic which is the development release of Ubuntu, so I'm marking the task as Fix Released.
