This appears to only happen under Unity so is probably related to either compiz or light-themes.

Alistair Buxton, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) Could you please provide a screencast of your issue following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Screencast ?

2) As a potential WORKAROUND if you uninstall individually or in combination:
libreoffice-gtk
libreoffice-gtk3

does this not happen?

The bug does not happen if libreoffice-gtk is removed from the system. libreoffice-gtk3 has never been installed.

The bug affects all checkboxes anywhere in libreoffice.

The bug still happens when not using Unity/compiz and/or light-themes. However, when not using compiz it manifests differently. In this case the outside of the checkbox does not redraw until the mouse is moved away rather than the inside - this is much less noticeable but is probaly caused by the same thing.

How the bug appears when not using Unity/compiz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3Ad8bUhNTI - notice that part of the tick still gets left behind until the mouse moves off the checkbox item label.

Alistair Buxton, thank you for the requested information. To check if this also may affect upstream, would you mind testing this out in the development release live environment via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ? If the issue remains, please just make a comment to this.

Yes, frankly I would mind. You have enough information now to mark this bug as triaged.

Alistair Buxton, thank you for providing the requested test results. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one. It would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions verbatim at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about the status. Thanks in advance.

To reproduce:
1. Open any configuration dialog.
2. Click on a checkbox but don't move the mouse off it.
3. Click a couple more times.

WORKAROUND: Uninstall libreoffice-gtk.

This bug mainly only affects Unity/compiz. Under other window managers, some graphical corruption of the checkbox is seen, but it is less serious.
