What is expected to happen in a new install of either Xubuntu Saucy or Trusty, is acroread is available once the Partner repository is enabled.
What happens instead is it's not available as per https:/
WORKAROUND: In Saucy, a work around is to install the deb files from Precise.
WORKAROUND: In Trusty, install wine1.7 from Wine PPA https:/
Attempted failed work arounds for Trusty amd64:
1) It crashes consistently Installing package nspluginwrapper, then download and install:
https:/
http://
or:
http://
https:/
2) Download the file from www.adobe.
sudo ./AdbeRdr9.
sudo: ./AdbeRdr9.
3) Attempted to download Adobe provided .deb from:
ftp://ftp.

I just installed the daily build of Trusty amd64 and downloaded the Acrobat deb file from Adobe. I have not installed Wine.
Acrobat failed to run until I copied the libstdc... and libxml2.so... (files & links) from an earlier version of Ubuntu. These files are located in the previous installation's /usr/lib/ i386-linux- gnu folder. If you start acroread from a terminal you can see which files are missing as it attempts to start.
I consider this a temporary solution until the proper - and most likely more recent - files are included in Trusty as it gets closer to release.
