Bug Description
Starting from "src.svg" Inkscape r12849 makes "drawing.svg". These two forms of the same drawing contain 3 rectangular paths that are filled with a linear gradient, but have no stroke.
1. Open Inkscape
2. load either file
3. click on the black->blue rectangle
4. open "fill and stroke": the linear gradient tab is shown with the proper gradient highlighted.
5. Click on either of the other two gradients in "fill and stroke" and the rectangle changes to that gradient.
So far so good. Now repeat that exercise for the other two gradients. In both of these cases, while the proper gradient is shown in the "linear gradient" tab, clicking on one of the other gradients in that list of gradients does not change the gradient of the selected rectangle.
This error is not consistent, sometimes it is the black->blue rectangle that works, sometimes it is the green. Sometimes more than one works, sometimes not.
Note also that when the horizontal black->blue rectangle is selected, and then one of the vertical gradients is selected,
the colors change over, but the gradient is still horizontal. The same thing happens when one of the vertical gradients happens to be working - the colors change, but not the direction of the gradient.
Tested on Linux.
Related observation - when the black->blue gradient is not working with "stroke and fill" changes:
1. Select black->blue rectangle
2. click on gradient editor along the left side of the screen - the gradient toolbar opens up along the top.
3. Use the "Select:" pull down list to choose another gradient.
Result: the selection is ignored.
