Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When importing songs from my ipod into the library using copy-paste a number of import errors appear which I have been able to reproduce as I have tried this twice.
There are a number of "Error while saving song information. Internal GStreamer problem." dialog boxes that appear during the import process. In the import errors section there are many entries saying "Couldn't access file:///mnt/windows-itunes/itunes/[artist_name}/{album_name}/{song_name}.mp3B78D11:File Not Found" Each different song seems to have 6 characters after the .mp3 that seems to have come from the ipod but for some reason the file name has not been created properly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. Also it works fine for me doing drag and drop from my ipod song list to the library, all inside rhythmbox of course. We'll wait for your more detailed description, thanks a lot.

Dear Pedro,

Thank you for replying to me. As you have probably guessed I am new to
Ubuntu and in fact Linux. Up until 4 weeks ago I have only ever used
Windows and IBM As400's. I have never logged a bug for an open source
operating system before but I have logged plenty for proprietary systems
like the AS400. Being new to Linux and the fact that it is all
unfamiliar and new I am a little lost when it comes to finding out
details to help with solving Ubuntu problems.

Since logging the bug I have been reading the Ubuntu formus and
searching through Google and have since discovered quite a few things
about iPods and Ububtu. One thing I discovered was that my iPod was
mounted read-only which was I know was causing Rhythmbox to do all sorts
of strange things and basically not work as I would have expected.

The mp3 files I found with extra 6 characters after .mp3 as it turned
out were duplicates of the real mp3 files in some folders in my library.
I deleted these mp3xxxxxx files and reloaded Rhythmbox and all was ok.
And I haven't had a problem since then.

Yours Sincerely,

Rod Singleton

Melbourne, Australia

PS. By the way I think Ubuntu is my new passion and I love it.
