Actually it's not a bug, the problem is, that in order for the smbldap-tools to work properly, they must be configured. During the installation the config dir /etc/smbldap-tools is generated, but it is empty.

Once you copy the example config files smbldap.conf.gz (has to be gunzipped) and smbldap_bind.conf in /usr/share/doc/smbldap-tools/examples/ into /etc/smbldap-tools and have them adjusted to your needs, the smbldap-tools are working.

Of course, it would be a great idea, to have the configure.pl - script executed during the package install...

i would suggest as a workaround to execute this when the package is configured.

sudo gzip -d /usr/share/doc/smbldap-tools/configure.pl.gz
sudo perl /usr/share/doc/smbldap-tools/configure.pl

if not hope this will help others (workaround tested and working on lucid 10.04 alpha2)
