Bug Description

Network-admin refuses to load. I ran network-admin in terminal as follows, and this is what I get:

ryan@pharaoh:~$ gksu network-admin

(network-admin:8078): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends: Process /usr/share//system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl exited with status 2

(network-admin:8078): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends: Process /usr/share//system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl exited with status 2
ryan@pharaoh:~$

I then get a popup window that says this:

The configuration could not be loaded

You are not allowed to access the system configuration

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Also, please answer these questions:
* Is this crash reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

Please also answer, which version of Ubuntu and gnome-system-tools you have installed.

Sorry, I'm unable to reproduce the crash anymore. I had installed Ubuntu
7.04 along with the latest version of gnome-system-tools from the Ubuntu
package repositories. I have since reinstalled a fresh copy of 7.04 to
correct the problem (which it has, among other problems). Thanks anyway.

Had the same problem with services-admin and a few other g-s-t apps (didn't try all of them). Then I found in http://www.64studio.com/node/85 that the problem could be an error loading the Net::DBus Perl module, so I tried this:

perl -MNet::DBus -e1

The problem was that I had installed my own Perl in /usr/local/bin/perl (which doesn't have Net::DBus), so when g-s-t runs perl from the PATH fails in loading the module.
