How do install Ubuntu

Bug Description

I am new to Ubuntu (probably relevant)
I have downloaded Ubuntu 7.04 from the Oxford UK site, and burned it onto a CD.
When I load the CD into my Dell laptop (Inspiron 5100, 5 years old) which is using Windows XP, I am unclear what to do next.

Is there documentation that explains how I get Ubuntu to replace Windows as the operating system in use.

Should something happen automatically or is there an installation process included on the CD that I need to initiate?

Note, at this stage I only want to try out Ubuntu without destroying Windows XP.

Regards

Chris Monahan

And why did you link to an unrelated question ?

There is help available to install Ubuntu here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation
