Bug Description

Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64-bit

I started Linux Mint normally and when I changed the volume in the Sound applet Cinnamon went in fallback mode. I then restarted Cinnamon from the fallback mode and the problem didn't occur (the volume could be modified normally) until the next time I restart Linux, when this happens again.

Changing the volume shouldn't cause Cinnamon to go in fallback mode.

Like I said above, the problem happens every time I start Linux and want to modify the volume for the first time during that session.

I have a very similar problem to this although in my case Cinnamon restarts in normal mode, not fallback mode. The trigger mechanism is the same, changing the volume from the volume applet in the systray or the volume applet in Banshee.

As with the OP the error is triggered only after the first startup (or reboot) of Mint and not subsequently.

This appears in syslog for the time the error is triggered.

Forgot to say, I am using exactly the same version Mint as the OP.

Also, I noticed this problem (the same version of the system and Cinamon)

I have a similar problem. I am using Linux Mint 18.1. Cinnamon crashes when ever I try to open up Rhythmbox/VLC/Clementine from the sound applet. When they are already running in the background the problem does not occur until they are explicitly closed. If you try to open them again the problem persists. This bug seems recent because it did not happen again.
