Bug Description

Every time my computer runs out of battery while being in suspend OR crashes after resume from suspend (black screen, won't start properly) the system runs painfully slow.

I can demonstrate this by running a very simple benchmark with cat /dev/urandom.

First result: After a bootup after power failure during suspend

thonov@thonov-ubuntu:~$ time cat /dev/urandom |head -c 500000000 >/dev/null

real 2m54.181s
user 0m0.308s
sys 2m54.912s
thonov@thonov-ubuntu:~$ uname -r
3.11.0-13-generic

2nd result: After a shutdown / power-on under normal circumstances:

thonov@thonov-ubuntu:~$ time cat /dev/urandom |head -c 500000000 >/dev/null

real 0m43.797s
user 0m0.092s
sys 0m44.036s
thonov@thonov-ubuntu:~$ uname -r
3.11.0-13-generic

I'm attaching a dmesg from both these bootups.

While I'm having this problem it is insanely slow to use the system. Just opening Chrome takes forever and when it's finally opened it is also slow browsing. Well, using any app is slow.

Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new issue?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I think this has happened from 13.04 and still does in 13.10.

Just a note, you recommend to test 3.12 and then later link to 3.13.

I am now running 3.13 rc2 and will report back as soon as I've had a suspend crash/reboot again.

Problem is fixed in 3.13 rc2. System is fast even after a battery outage during suspend.

ThomasNovin, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please just make a comment to this?
