Search for photo using XMP metadata shows no results

When searching via the Unity interface using terms that I know are embedded in to photos XMP metadata, Unity shows no results.

Here is part of the XMP metadata contained in the image, extracted using exiftool:

Hi,
for speed reasons, metadata is not fully parsed and not available to the search for local photos. The only searchable tags are the one added (manually/automatically) in Shotwell.

On the bright side, this might be fixed for 14.04. Also, if you use the Flickr or Picasa integration for the lens, you can actually search via most metadata fields.

Cool, I look forward to seeing full support of XMP-dwc in 14.04.

In the meantime, I'll do some testing with Flickr & Picasa, to see if XMP-dwc data is preserved and searchable. And look into auto-tagging Shotwell.

Recently I came across the Recoll Unity lens and it DOES index all the metadata (using exiftool) in my test images and I can then quickly search for those images in Unity.

I have not noticed any performance issues on my laptop using Recoll.
