This bug is a bit sneaky. Upon reboot (didn't change anything) the touchpad now works in the login screen and desktop.

I have a similar problem on two different computers after upgrading to Lubuntu 14.04.
On the E-machines only the tap-to-click option is not working. The touchpad works on the login screen and in the guest account.
On my Sony Vaio the touchpad is actually working but it's really slow and only when it "wants" to work, even then only for one second. External mouse works fine. Same problem on the login screen and during guest sesssion.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect <bug #>

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

I've marked this invalid as PPC is no longer supported by Lubuntu; sorry.

Changed in lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu):
