Bug Description

When I try to run update manager, I get the following comment:

Could not initialize the package information

A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Type '“deb' is not known on line 48 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Any suggestions?

TIA

Michael

I think you've got a wrong /etc/apt/sources.list. Have you tried with a clean sources.list ?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager

Hi Vincent--

Thanks so much for your response. I'm a real newbie here, so I don't know
how to try with a clean sources.list. Any chance you could walk me through
that?

Also, someone suggested removing the " in line 48. How do I do that?

TIA

Michael
