Bug Description
When I try to run update manager, I get the following comment:
Could not initialize the package information
A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type '“deb' is not known on line 48 in source list /etc/apt/
Any suggestions?
TIA
Michael

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I think you've got a wrong /etc/apt/ sources. list. Have you tried with a clean sources.list ?
