unity-greeter fails to start

About half the time my desktop or laptop boot, the unity-greeter never shows leaving me with a black screen. Both systems use AMD hardware and run the default, open source, radeon driver. The desktop is a standard AMD GPU and the laptop is an AMD E-350 APU.

Thank you for your bug report, could you add the logs from /var/log/lightdm to the bug report (lightdm.log x-0-greeter.log x-0.log) when getting the issue?
