Bug Description

I created A3 document in OpenOffice.org using two png images and Rekha font.
I attempted to print it using Xerox DocumentCentre 230, custom xerox ppd file.

If I use PCL driver, the shading of image is consistent (although not accurate), however only first two rows of text are printed and two last rows too. And even that only on left half of an A3. The right side contains no image and only interpunct symbols (comma, minus and dot). No letters at all.

If I use PS driver, the both images are printed, however shading is severely roughed to two degrees of gray. Again, only first three and last two rows of text get printed, however at least they are printed for full length of A3. The remaining text is not printed at all at left side of paper. At right side, again only interpunct symbols are printed.

I printed the file on Windows, of course, other font used. The file is printed alright.

I tested exporting PDF from OOo. The PDF looks quite well, expecting the letters spacing that is not alright.

I see that even with Ubuntu, the text CAN be printed alright, however not with the font "Rekha". With Nimbus Sans L, it is printed alright.

Strange. Even if the document is exported to PDF in OOo, printed using PS driver spits out NO TEXT. See PDF test case
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8410731/Microsoft-charakteristika-lin.pdf

When I print it, pictures are printed well, however only interpunct symbols are printed at A4.

Using PCL driver, results are the same.

WinXP, HPDJ 6940, PDF printed OK.
WinXP, Xerox DC 230, PCL driver, PDF corrupted.

-Seems that there is some problem with the printer driver itself?

Can you connect your DeskJet 6940 to your Linux box, set it up there and try whether you can print your OOo file correctly?

No, it has been mistake. Windows XP prints it alright.

Well, I connected to HPDJ 6940 from Linux and printed the PD. It works well.

I also tested printing the ODF directly. Only first 1/4 is printed 1/4 (HPDJ 6940 is A4 printer) and the result is BAD (equal to Xerox).

So, it's NOT the Xerox PPD fault.

It looks like this bug hasn't seen any activity in a bit, but I'd like to know if the current release of Ubuntu (Hardy Heron) is exhibiting the same results as when this bug was released. I've downloaded the PDF file, but I don't currently have a printer that can handle A3 paper. I do note, though, that the spacing looks a bit off when I view the PDF file. I've attached a screenshot of this behavior. Note the spacing under "Step to the Left or Step to the right and you fail".

Also, when I run ps2pdf on the file under Hardy, I get the following:
craig@lister:~/inbox$ pdf2ps Microsoft-charakteristika-lin.pdf
GPL Ghostscript 8.61: Failed to interpret TT instructions for glyph index 1 of font Rekha-medium. Continue ignoring instructions of the font.

It also looks like the file is more a bitmap representation, and not actually the text. How did you generate this file under OpenOffice, as I'm wondering if that might be the root cause. Was this generated using the export to PDF under OpenOffice 2.2? Would it be possibl to export this file again under a later version of OpenOffice under Hardy or Windows?

Thanks!
