bzr fails on 401 instead of asking for a username/password

Bug Description

When checking out an SVN repository for the first time, bzr fails instead of prompting me for authentication. The documentation doesn't mention that supplying a username as part of the URL initiates authentication.

jean@klippie:~/repos/bzr/googlecode.com$ bzr co https://bungeni-portal.googlecode.com/svn/Bungeni
bzr: ERROR: Invalid http response for https://bungeni-portal.googlecode.com/svn/Bungeni/.bzr/branch-format: Unable to handle http code 401: Authorization Required

This happens before bzr-svn is used at all - so setting as duplicate of 72792
