Bug Description

The unity-panel-service is using a lot RAM (sometimes well over 700 MB) and is running really slow. Menus in the Globalmenu are not opening at all or only with a huge delay. In any case all the menus are becoming really sluggish.

Even got some people on high school coming and complaining about that they're not able to use their menus anymore...

Now I have reached the next level: unity-panel-service running at 100% and having the global menu to completely disappear now and then...

happens even on a Core i7 with 8GB RAM, so there is obviously something very wrong here. Renders many applications (GIMP, Firefox, LibreOffice) completely useless...
