E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
This is the error message given out by the update manager.
Version/Edition of Linux mint:
Linux Mint 15 "olivia" 64 bit
How to produce bug:
Attempt to install updates via the vanilla Update Manager and will display error with every subsequent install attempt.
What Happened:
Updates failed to install, see above.
What was expected to occur:
Updates to install summarily and without issue.

This issue also affects me, on Linux Mint 15.
It would seem to be an artifact of the naming of the packages in /var/lib/apt/lists, and I attach a screenshot of a Terminal window showing a [partial] 'ls -l' of that directory, together with a ciew of the error dialogue generated by Synaptic Package Manager.
My suspicion is that the -en%5fGB part of the name, more specifically the %5f part, is causing problems ...
