Thanks for reporting this issue and welcome to Launchpad! :)

Fwiw, I was not able to reproduce this issue on Debian Testing, so we need someone running the stable version to take a look at
this.

Could you please delete ~/.widelands/config and try again. I assume that you are running Widelands in 16bit mode, but this is no longer supported (only 32bit is). You can also check in the options menu and report if there are still 16bit modes listed.

You are rigth, it runs now.
I ve build17 installed and 6818 was using the same config-file.

So we can close this.

But maybe we can add a short paragraph about this in the article about installation in the wiki.

Nice to hear things got sorted out. It didn't occur to me this might be the problem when we spoke on IRC.

Hm, together with bug 1241649 this is the second time someone has gotten Widelands into an unplayable state due to 16bit in a rather short time. If it is not too hard I think we should consider catching this and switching to 32bit mode instead (similar to the fallback for systems/devices not supporting opengl). Otherwise I fear this issue will affect lots of players, primarily those updating.

I agree. I thought I coded it that way already, but apparently I missed something.
