The xmpi package has carried an Ubuntu delta since the CXX transition in Breezy.
My intention in the patch against version 2.2.3b8-13.1 in Debian attached to comment #1 is to re-synchronize with Debian.
I believe that if this is done during the 14.04 LTS development cycle, the Ubuntu delta can be completely dropped in 14.10.
