Bug Description

Kubuntu 13.04 and kubuntu 13.10: the rtl8192cu module is able to connect to the wifi modem only if the modem is very near (1-2 meters). Randomly the connection go down like the modem was turned off (but the modem is still stand up).
With 13.04 I was able to install proprietary driver from this URL: https://code.google.com/p/realtek-8188cus-wireless-drivers-3444749-ubuntu-1304/
With 13.10 I'm able to install the deb, but the system will become unstable at the next boot, and the new driver will not work..

Below I report the data of my operating system.

I'm not very experienced in trying kernel versions installed manually. I read the page "https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds?action=show&redirect=KernelMainlineBuilds", but I would avoid that after installing the new kernel the system to become unstable or are not compiled drivers for some devices.
How can I test the 3.12 kernel safely without risking damage to my system?
Thanks

I've just installed the stable kernel release 3.12.0-031200-generic from ubuntu repositories, but the problem persists.
I complete my previous message saying that (in 3.11 and 3.12 too) the connection seem to be slow and the signal quality retrieved is low also if the modem-router is near (50 cm) from the usb wifi adapter.

I worked for some hours with kernel 3.12 and here's the situation with respect to version 3.11:
- problem "rtl8192cu module is able to connect to the wifi modem only if the modem is very near (1-2 meters)": SEEM (I hope) to be resolved
- problem "Randomly the connection go down like the modem was turned off (but the modem is still stand up)": SEEM (I hope) to be resolved
- problem "the connection seem to be slow and the signal quality retrieved is low": sometime the connection is still slow and the wifi icon indicates steadily that the signal has 2/3 power (the full signal is never reached)
