Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Gutsy Tribe-2 + current updates:

Description:

Firefox does not restore sessions from last time even when setting

> Edit > Preferences > Main > When Firefox starts > "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

There was a bug (#62012)for that in Edgy which got closed, so I created a new one for Gutsy Alpha.

How to reproduce:

1. Start Firefox.
2. Open a few tabs with web pages.
3. Logout of your Gnome session without closing Firefox.
4. Login and open Firefox.
5. Even if Firefox aks you to restore the last session - after clicking "Restore" Firefox presents a blank page.

Expected behavior:

Firefox should restore last session if you click "Restore" or it should automatically start with saved sessions if the option "Show my windows and tabs from last time" is set.

Thank you felix.rommel for your report.

I've tried to reproduce the behavior you have described, but in my experience it works as expected.

Can you indicate which web pages did you have in the tabs before closing? just in case that has any relation with the problem.

Also, indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled, and your firefox package version.

Thanks in advance.

I have Gutsy Tribe-2 + current updates:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070703 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.4

I open for example 2 tabs with 2 sites:
www.heise.de
www.prolinux.de

I created a new user with default home directory so I have no plugins installed.

What makes me wonder is that with a default directory of a new user the Ubuntu start page doesn't appear... Maybe it has sth. to do that I updated nearly daily since Tribe-2 came out?

But I don't want to reinstall Gutsy atm because I already use it for my work and have no time for a new installation ;)

Todays update 2007-07-19 solved the problem with not having a default Ubuntu start page for new users. I also can restore sessions from last time when clicking on "Restore Session" buttons.

The only thing that remains is: if I enable

> Edit > Preferences > Main > When Firefox starts > "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Firefox still pops up the dialog with the question if tabs from last session should be restored, instead of automatically open them without a question dialog.

Hello, I just started using Ubuntu myself and experience this same behavior. Any time I click "Restore last session", Firefox simply opens up a single empty tab (the empty page is my home page).

Thanks,

Sorry, i kind of added the affects firefox-3.0 package on accident.
Anyway, it could still be. See bug 279774.

Shanif: do you have the "clear private data on shutdown" option enabled?
And does it clear you browsing history?
