Bug Description

1. Open browser app and go to omgubuntu.co.uk
2. Do a quick flick from bottom to top so that the page scrolls down
3. Note the not-so-smooth scrolling.
4. Now repeat the same thing with SurfaceFlinger, scrolling is smooth like ice.

The attached file show the drawing lag on a fast scroll and the juddering effect on a slow scroll

General scrolling unity8 itself is smooth but if you have multiple apps running and you scroll in the dash you can note a clear jumpy scrolling behavior there as well. but that may as well be related to bug 1227739

Yeah sounds like it might be solved with bug 1227739. Unfortunately for mako that also depends on bug 1240833 being resolved.

This same symptom is currently visible on the manta.

@duflu - wrt what pat's reporting, when you get to the point in your measuring activity could you also measure specifically web page scroll, and "loaded" dash scroll

The first step should probably be to land all the optimizations we have in progress. What remains is bug 1227739, which still requires platform-api work.

I've only just got my own "manta" so will look to see if there are any obvious performance problems in Mir holding it back. One such issue I can think of is that our Android "fence" support is not yet complete. I don't really understand that stuff but know it's on kdub's list of things to do.

Omer,

Do you think this is the same as bug 1270245?
