Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox freezes when I change the Gnome theme.
I have many tabs opened in Firefox and changing Gnome theme while having Firefox running in the background almost always makes it freeze, and then I have to kill it.
I have Ubuntu 7.04 and Firefox 2.0.0.4

Update: the bug is still present on Firefox 3 in Ubuntu 8.04

Thank you Przemysław Kulczycki for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions
on [1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during
the crash and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

I tried with a new clean profile - at first nothing happened. I tried again a few times and clean-profile firefox froze, just as before.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open about 20 tabs in Firefox
2) run gnome-theme-manager
3) Change your Gnome theme to anything else
4) Voila - Firefox will now eat 100% of your CPU and freeze for pretty long time.

It doesn't crash though. It just freezes for so long that I have to kill it.
Here's my gdb output.

I've run firefox with strace - the log is attached (though it's huge - 8.7MB after unpacking).
I've opened 20 tabs in my firefox on a clean profile on a new test user, I changed my gnome theme while firefox was running, and then firefox was not responding for about 2 minutes so I killed it.
Maybe this log will tell you something.

can you reproduce this issue? Can you add step-by-steps instructions how to do that?

Thanks,

I tried to freeze Firefox with the instructions from the second comment, but nothing. It did took a while to change the theme, but Firefox continued to work normally after that.

Tested in Gran Paradiso alpha 7. I will try to reproduce it in Firefox 2.
