Bug Description

When battery gets critically low, the default action is to suspend (which, by the way, is ridiculously missing as an option in Power settings, as the action to take when battery gets critically low, see #939335).

However, for some reason, the system will immediately resume on its own initiative just after suspending. Then, it will suspend again in a matter of seconds, becuse battery is low. And then it will immediately resume again and so on.

WORKAROUND: This does not happen if you manually suspend when there is enough battery.

Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new issue?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

It's not related to the battery, or anyway it's not necessarily when critically low.
The first time I observed it the battery was low so I thought that was what triggered the issue.

However now it's happening again, and the battery is completely charged (and connected to power).

I suspend, then it immediately spontaneously resumes. Once it starts, it's systematic, that is I've tried like 6 or 7 times to suspend and it always resume.

This seems to appear randomly: I had suspended dozens of times without problems after the last time I had observed the issue.

And no, I can't test the upstream kernels.

And raise the importance. Being unable to suspend is major, if not rcitical.

Definitely critical: meets all these criteria:
Causes data corruption [if you suspend and go away and don't realize it wakes up]
Renders the system temporarily or permanently unusable
Severely affects applications beyond the package responsible for the root cause

There are a lot of PM-related messages in the black screen I see for a fraction of a second when suspending/resuming.

Please for god's sake tell me in which log file I can look for those message and post them before it's too late.

matteo sisti sette, as per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update is available for your BIOS (2.17). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Thank you for your understanding.
