Bug Description

If one has a CD inserted in my CD-ROM drive, every few minutes it gets spun up.
This is insanely irritating when one is trying to sleep:
manager.c/851: Device removed: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_Rome_TW_CD1
manager.c/789: New Device: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_Rome_TW_CD1
manager.c/825: Changed: /dev/hdc
manager.c/542: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_Rome_TW_CD1 already mounted,
not mounting again
manager.c/905: Mounted: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_Rome_TW_CD1

Also, this means if you have an audio cd in the drive, it gets played every 5
minutes, which is not the intended behaviour I suspect.

not exactly the same here, but when I've a DVD in the drive totem starts a few
minutes after the login (and that works fine after that).

Does that mean that these messages appear every few minutes? If so, can you
please run hal in debugging mode

  sudo killall hald
  sudo hald --drop-privileges --daemon=no --verbose=yes > hal.log 2>&1

and send me the initial output and the output after a few minutes?

I can't reproduce this here (i386).

I really cannot reproduce both issues. However, after discussing this with Seb,
this might be a consequence of the broken inotify.

Can both of you please boot with "noinotify" and check whether this bug still
occurs?

Thanks!

I think this is the same bug as #6879. Seb, can you please check whether hal
really needs that long to start up for you?

Thom, I can't reproduce this either. Does it still happen with the new kernel
("iz ibreakify bug")? If so, can you please send me a hal debug output?

pitti assigned this to me, since i'm busy with hal anyway. the behavior has gone
away for me with one of the last kernel updates, seb128 could confirm it. so if
it works for thom too, i'll happily close it.

I can confirm that my issue is fixed, but I'm not sure that's the same as thom's
one

Definitely not fixed here; with an audio cd in the driver the cd player pops up
every few minutes.
Can't see anything useful in the logs, but I'll start hal in debug mode.

this seems to have disappeared during breezy development, additionally nobody
could reproduce it recently, closing, feel free to reopen if its still occuring
