Bug Description

I am able to boot "try without installing" from the daily image for Saucy, but the internal display never shows anything but a blank screen.
My computer is an Acer S7 laptop with intel HD4000 graphics.

I am booting in EFI mode, and the computer successfully boots because I can hear the Ubuntu volume change sounds when I hit the volume up/down buttons, and when I then attach an external HDMI monitor I can see a desktop. The backlight on the internal display is on (I can see it glowing) but the internal screen is completely blank. Using the hotkey I can turn the backlight on/off. "Settings/Displays" shows "Built-in Display" as active and positioned next to external HDMI monitor.

If I boot in legacy mode, the internal display works. I have previously installed Ubuntu 13.04 on the same laptop in EFI mode without issues.

Strangely the internal display is not detected as LVDS, as xrandr gives this output:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ xrandr

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

After installing
linux-image-3.12.0-994-generic_3.12.0-994.201310220405_amd64.deb

from the mainline ppa, the internal display works.
