KCheckGmail 0.5.5-2 no longer works

Bug Description
The current version of KCheckGmail in the Feisty reposotories, 0.5.5-2 no longer works. After logging into Gmail, it wont' give any notification at all about new messages, how many emails are in the inbox, etc.
By installing the latest version, 0.5.6-1, it started working again for me. So, I request that it be backported to Feisty Fawn.

It would be much better to look at the differences and find the change (rather than the entire version) that is needed to make this work. That could be patched into the existing Feisty version and uploaded to -updates which is enabled by default. That way everyone could benifit. Please file a bug against the Feisty package rather than a backport request.
