Dovecot Plugin

Due to the complexities of handling the IMAP, POP, and SMTP protocols internally, it might be prudent to transform the BitMail project into a Dovecot plugin. BitMail would still handle the communication between itself and the PyBitmessage API, but it would no longer handle the IMAP, POP, and SMTP communcation. Instead, BitMail would communicate with Dovecot and let it handle the various email protocols. This kind of solution may end up being a much better approach in the long run since it would hopefully require much less protocol maintanence by letting Dovecot handle the email half of the communication.
