Hello Hadmut:
Your bug report indicates that you are using Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin). It is, indeed, outdated.
You have two options if you want a newer version of Hugin:
(1) official option: update to the latest version of Ubuntu. Usually it includes the latest Hugin available at the time of release. The advantage is that you get newer (and usually better) software across the board.
(2) unofficial option: some Hugin users provide backports. Add the latest Hugin PPA (instructions on the PPA's webpage linked below) and it will update to a newer version.

I am marking this bug as invalid because it is highly unlikely that the maintainer of the official Ubuntu repository will update an outdated release. There are good reasons for that.
