Screen locker won't unlock - just shows mouse cursor

This bug started happening in the last week, so perhaps is associated with a recent update. (It wasn't present after the first Luna release.)

After I lock the screen and leave it for some time, the unlock dialog does not show when I try to wake it back up. The mouse cursor shows, and can be moved. When I press ctrl + alt + backspace, I get a flash of the desktop background before X resets and the login dialog shows, at which point I can login.

I can confirm this problem, it is extremely annoying and happens every time when I lock the screen. The problem started occuring after I updated to KDE 4.11.5 within Kubuntu 13.10. So far, the only option to regain access to the session is to login to a tty and run `killall kscreenlocker_greet` from there. Yesterday, however, I had the problem that I could not even switch to a tty anymore...

Why is there no progress here at all? This is a super annoying bug and happens to me on two independent machines. People without command line knowledge cannot login into their running session anymore at all after lock the screen... This is a really severe bug...

On one of my machines, the problem disappeared and I can normally use the lock screen again. On the other machine, though, there is still no input possibility on the lockscreen and it just shows the background picture without anything else. Killing kscreenlocker_greet from a tty is still the only option. But every now and then when I do this, Xorg dies and takes with it the whole KDE session... This is a very severe bug, I would really appreciate any help to track it down or to fix it.

OP does this issue persist in Freya?
