Transparent stuff very slow, hogs CPU

Bug Description

Just updated to 13.10 (beta) from 13.04 and found transparent stuff on the desktop to be extremely slow. For example, moving the cursor over an item in Unities application bar takes about 3 seconds to display the description of it. The bar it's self moves out of and back into its hide fast, though.

Opening Unities big search panel takes something like a full minute, making it unusable. While this is happening, running "top" in a remote terminal reports 100% CPU usage for compiz.

Other stuff, like moving windows, even a transparent terminal window, or playing videos works just fine. Actually, even a bit snappier than with 13.04.

My system:

Hi Traumflug,

This looks like another duplicate of bug #1222602. This is due to a bad bug in Mesa 9.2. Please try the workaround in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1222602/comments/6 and see if it helps. Please report back here and let me know.

Thanks!

Yes, this workaround works and brings the description flags, search panel and restart dialog back to expected speed.
