Bug Description

Im using Beta 2 of 13.10. Rhythmbox brought up an error when I tried to play a radio stream.

It offered to report the bug which I did. It then said the bug had already been reported. It said it would show details on a webpage.

Firstly Firefox did not open automatically and secondly when I did open FireFox it opened the following page:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1199159

This page says the bug does not exist.

I hope this helps?

Kind regards

Peter Jones

So, the bug that caused this issue is going to be considered a bug against rhythmbox, but this issue is an issue with apport, and one that I've actually seen a number of times before. Apport, when given a rhythmbox issue, tends to (especially with segfaults) mark it as a duplicate of bug #1199159 , which doesn't exist. As a few examples, here are some issues from varying times that have been marked automatically as dupes of bug #1199159

http://osdir.com/ml/ubuntu-bugs/2013-09/msg03874.html
http://<email address hidden>/msg247563.html
http://<email address hidden>/msg247839.html
http://<email address hidden>/msg246474.html

These might be indicative of an issue in the apport retracing service in particular, or may just be a glitch in the system overall.

The bug exists, but it was a Private bug. I've marked it Public now. (A bug that has a coredump files starts out as private, and stays that may until a member of Bug Control manually sets it to Public.)

As far as the confusion that arises from this, see bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/764414

So, since the apport part of this issue is addressed in bug #764414, and the rhythmbox portion of this is addressed in bug #1199159, this issue can be closed and the components of it can be investigated further in the appropriate already existing bugs.

Invalidated because active discussion still exists in both bug #1199159, and in bug #764414, and this sort of got messy due to the apport related issues (which are well explained in bug #764414). Follow up in bug #1199159 with regards to the rhythmbox portion of this.

Changed in apport (Ubuntu):
