Bug Description

I haven't actually seen X crash while I'm using it - but whenever I shutdown my laptop, when I restart and try to apply the latest updates, etckeeper tells me there's a large core file in /etc/X11/core. This is reliably reproducible, and the timestamp of the core file tells me it's happening around shutdown, not startup.

The problem is probably XMir. Unfortunately we can't progress without a readable stack trace of the crash.

Right. But which debug packages do I need to install to get that? I
already have xserver-xorg-core-dbg and xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg and
I don't see a xserver-xorg-xmir-dbg package.

Like many Ubuntu packages, Mir does not have separate dbg packages.

But you can get debug symbols for any package (in theory) using ddebs.ubuntu.com:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash#Debug_Symbol_Packages

It's not pretty though.
