the machine freezes when commanded to turn off

The problem occurs randomly, one day well another day off will freeze, and you can not even get the console, and restarted in the X functions, have to use ctrl + alt + print + reisub.

It will update the kernel and is still happening, I realized I had novau drivers thought it was problem of video, so upgrade to proprietary, but it still has the problem.

There are a few things that should help us figure out where the issue lies. Firstly, please remove "splash" and "quiet" from grub menu.lst. This should verbose the issue, and it shouldn't be to hard to spot the error message. Secondly, the following log files will also help with this situation: "/var/log/messages", "/var/log/kern.log", "/var/log/log*.log",and the output of "dmesg".

On the machine with the problem, I did not find the log message or folder.
I'll make the change in the grup.list at this moment, to see what error arises.
