Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:
When a a non hidden folder is renamed so that it becomes hidden enter and double left clicking no longer open that folder/file and instead do nothing. This problem is only contained within that window, when a new window is created this problem does not exist. However, Alt+Down arrow, single right click -> Open, and Ctrl+L then typing in the path, still work.

How to reproduce:
This has only been tested in my home folder. Choose any folder that is not hidden. Single Right Click -> Rename and add . to the begining making it hidden, press enter.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Under Ubuntu, if the name of the folder begins with a point, then it is a hidden folder. It isn't a bug.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. Yes I know that prefixing a . to a name makes it a hidden file. However, I have nautilus set to view hidden files so my complaint is not that the file "disapears" and I can't open it. The bug that occurs prevents the use of ENTER or DOUBLE-LEFT-CLICK from being used to open all folders, not just the one that has been renamed.

Comment from upstream:
"This does not happen anymore in 2.21.2.
Other issues with renaming folders/files from non-hidden to hidden, are
described in bug #342819. Closing as obsolete, but feel free to open again if
you can still reproduce it with a valid testcase."
