Bug Description

Closing the lid did not send the laptop to suspend. The next day the laptop was unresponsive (Even Cntrl+Alt+F2 did not work), had to do a hard shutdown.

The first boot attempt resulted in several error messages and again the system to be unresponsive.

The second boot attempt worked perfectly fine.

I have had a similar issue, attempting to suspend results in the machine freezing and requiring me to reboot it. I can't access anything but the prtsc+alt+ctrl+u+s+b sequence allows me to restart the machine.

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 (AMD64) on a Lenovo Ideapad Y500. Everything is pretty much stock standard and up to date, I have not used backports or any other non stable or test packages.

Uname: Linux 3.8.0-30-generic x86_64

I am using the X-org driver, I could not find any bugs relating to the x.org driver in this regard though

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
