I thought this is one we had fixed, but Daily Digest alerts don't seem
to be working. Several communities where I have scheduled Daily Digest
alerts are sending me the alerts immediately.

I just wanted to send around a quick update. I received the daily
digest email for the community, in addition to the immediate alerts.
Very strange.

Nat, sorry, I didn't read this correctly yesterday to see that it was
marked as High.
As you noted, it eventually made its way through. Sometimes with
conflict errors that can happen. I will assign to Tres for
investigation.

Sorry, I think the original bug was marked high - I didn't touch the
priority when I re-opened it.
A related question - if a user switches email preferences from
immediately to daily digest (or weekly digest, etc.), does that change
take place immediately or is there a delay. Yesterday we had several
users change their email preferences mid-day, but were still receiving
alerts. If it takes a certain amount of time to kick-in then I suppose
that receiving the alerts would be expected. If it's supposed to be an
instant change, then that's not what was happening.

I think it should turn off their instant alerts, so that sounds like a
bug. Can you recreate it yourself (the bug)?

Nat Katin-Borland (nborland) wrote on 2013-09-19: #14
Yep, I have have verified that alerts continue even after selecting a
digest level.

Ok, I will enter a second bug report for this.

Now I just tested in another community and it the alerts didn't
continue once I switched to daily. So I got different behavior. Maybe
it's a public/private community thing?

Can you reply back with the community name that worked and the one
that didn't?

Yesterday, immediate alerts continued, even after I switched to Daily
Digest:

Today, I was able to switch back and forth between Daily and Immediate
and everything seems to work:

We'll continue looking at the conflict error part that caused the
original problem, though it is possible that it was just a one-time
thing.
For the second issue (changing to digest not having an immediate
effect), since you couldn't recreate it yesterday, let's try that
again when you return on Thursday and, if it remains, we'll file a
ticket for it.

Re: changing to digest not "working" right away
If there was a big burst of activity in a community (the sort that
might cause multiple people to switch to digest mode), it is
conceivable that the mailout processor had already queued up a bunch
of instant notifications to be delivered. Those messages would not be
affected by the switch to digest mode: they would already have "flown
the coop," as far as the community was concerned.
I do see a very large set of updates to the same few files on
Wednesday in this community:
https:/

We really need more data on this: there is no obvious way to test the hypothesis that the "after switch" e-mails were already in the mailout queue.
