Hi.
I tried and track the problem with a version of the same debian package recompiled with debug
informations.
Using ddd, I can find that the problem seems to come from the call to e_book_
migrate_

I found a way to bypass the freeze.
I moved the ~/evolution folder so that it won't try to convert any longer old data, then I had to
remove also the contents of the addressbook entries already half-migrated (rm
~/.evolution/
Then it finally ended the migration, my mails folders are there... and I'll be able to work although
I lost my addressbook in the process (not that serious since mine is on a PDA actually).
Hope this helps.

Subject: evolution: Migration to 2.0.3
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.1
Severity: important
I used evolution with version 1.4.x (testing).
After recent upgrade to 2.0.3 of the package, I tried and launched
evolution, but it freezes during import of old 1.4.x data.
The mail folders are imported correctly (it seems), and then, during
processing of the addressbook, it freezes.
Command line reports :
addressbook_migrate (1.4.0)
(evolution:1276): libebook-WARNING **: invalid utf8 passed to EVCard.
Limping along.
(evolution:1276): libebook-WARNING **: vcard ended without END:VCARD
trying to migrate from /home/olivier/
found 1 contact servers to migrate
trying to migrate completion folders
... and thn it freezes.
There is a progressbar which completes to 100% migrating the Personnel
(french user) addressbook, before "trying to migrate completion
folders".
Then the new progress bar displayed after "trying to migrate completion folders"
progresses to 12% and gets freezed...
The problem seems identical to the one reported there :
https:/
When interrupting (C-c) the process, after a while, there is the crash
dialog for evolution-
This bug renders evolution unsueable unless removing previous
/evolution, and old mails unaccessible, which is
quite problematic.

Hi,
Does somebody still gets this issue with 2.0.4 ? Does somebody get the
issue while updating from 1.0 ?
I'm changing the severity to important since nobody has opened a such
bug for 2.0.4. Is somebody getting this issue now to work with upstream
on that ?
Cheers,

I've tried to locate the changelogs and to my eye it appears as if 2.0.4
became available on 2005-02-14, the comment made on bugzilla was on
2005-02-22, so at this stage I cannot actually locate a relationship
between a ChangeLog entry and the bug, so I'm guessing that it's still
broken.
I'm emailing JP Rosevear (the person making the comment in bugzilla), to
see if we can get some clarification.
Unfortunately I cannot actually test this anymore because the failing
~/evolution folder is no longer available. (Also as an aside, I note
that some have pointed to not only addressbook data, but Virtual Folders
causing the problem.)

I emailed JP Rosevear at the same time as it was logged in BugTrack, but
have yet to receive any response. The evolution bug page shows no
further updates that I can discern.
At this stage I'm pretty sure that the bug still exists, but I've got no
difinitive proof of that (yet - see below).

I have located the original evolution folder and hope to test the
migration with the current testing version (2.0.4) some time this week
(as soon as I have some disk space to play with - 2.1Gb of mail, double
migration, existing mail, that's 6.3Gb spare on a 20Gb hdd ;-)
