Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

If you tap the touchpad (click) while your cursor is over a tab and you are tapping the touchpad on the top right corner (on the touchpad) then Firefox will close the tab instead of switching to it.

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Ubuntu Fiesty. My laptop is a Samsung R55.

Can you please run xev and attach/paste the events when and around the time you click with the touchpad inside the window?

also, can you attach/paste InputDevice section with the TouchPad identifier in /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?

Do you have any problem with any other program? What kernel and X version do you have?

I highly suspect that this isn't firefox, but X or kernel problems.

Please, do not change the status of the bug. "Incomplete" means that we need more info to be able to start working on a bugfix.

I've read your initial description again. You say that firefox closes the tab if you tap it in the top right corner? On my firefox, the top right corner got a white X on a red square, and is supposed to close the tabs! Are you unable to see the X? (if yes: Are you using another theme than the default?)

ugh....

I am not clicking the "close" button. I am using the default theme.

When I said top right corner I meant on the touchpad. not the firefox tab.

Okay, found the bug. It's not actually a bug, but a feature, so that's why I'm closing the bug (if you don't agree, please open it again).

On the the driver's information site (http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/x11/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics), it states that it have

 * Middle and right button events on the upper and lower corner of the touchpad

If you middle-click on a tab in firefox, it will close itself. If you don't like this behaviour, please look for a preference-setting and change it (if you can't find one, please file another bug).

Have a nice day,
Martin

I have this problem and would like to know where the preference setting is to turn this off. I am running Ubuntu Hardy Heron and Firefox/2.0.0.14.

This isn't a bug, nor is a bugtracker the correct channel for support for configuring your touchpad.
