Bug Description

Raw Therapee is a "free RAW converter and digital photo processing software." There is only one main RAW photo program in the repositories right now, and some including I, prefer to use Raw Therapee over the alternative. It is a great piece of software. I was able to compile it myself on my feisty install without issue, so it wouldn't seem to be difficult to have an Ubuntu package. The website where this can be found is http://www.rawtherapee.com .

Thanks for your bug report. The software is proprietary and closed source, and is thus only suitable for inclusion in the Multiverse repository. However, the author has expressed [1] that the source may be available under the GPL in the future. I'm confirming the bug for the time being.

Does "is thus only suitable for inclusion in the Multiverse repository" mean that it will be included? That would be great. (the author has already allowed pclos people to distribute it.. http://www.dfpe.pclinuxos.nl/ )

If someone packages it, it looks like it can.

Can it be included in the repository?

I'd love to see this integrated into the multiverse repos. It is a great piece of software.

RawTherapee needs to be included in Multiverse. It is fantastic RAW photo editing software that provides features not available in other Linux raw photo editing software. RawTherapee is essential software for serious amateur and professional photographers.

Please include this in Multiverse repository.

Is this an issue any longer? With the release of 2.4 it seems to not need any installation at all. Runs like a portable application.

I think the latest debs are 2.3 - it would be nice to have an apt-get (or even Ubuntu Software Center) installable package that adds a menu entry and puts the binaries somewhere sane. By far a nicer / more capable image editor than e.g. F-Spot (although I accept that the target audience is different)

Version 3.0 will indeed be under GPL 3.0. It is currently Alpha 1 and a few people on the forum having issues compiling it on 9.10. Haven't tried myself yet, but I will!

SVN repo is here: http://code.google.com/p/rawtherapee/

Sounds like the developer is looking to delegate quite a bit, so he should be open to a conversation about packaging it for Debian / Ubuntu...

I love RawTherapee, too, and I'm very happy that it is under GPL at last. Since it is the only free RAW converter with a reasonable user interface, it should definitely be packaged for Ubuntu!

I just created a RawTherapee Packagers team[0] to maintain a PPA[1] providing packages of the latest RawTherapee 3.x release. I have uploaded the first package some minutes ago and hope that they are useful for some people.

It was a little bit tricky to build RawTherapee with rawzor support but now it works.

I look forward building a rawtherapee-unstable package from a svn snapshot in the next days.

I see that rawtherapee 3.0 is in debian sid now:

http://packages.debian.org/nl/sid/rawtherapee

So can it be synced for maverick?

If this is synced to maverick, is it also a candidate to put into lucid-backports?
