Bug Description
I recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (worth $4000 CDN) but Dapper (6.06.1) can't read the dual Broadcom NetXtreme NICs. Luckily, I am setting up a VM environment, so I was able to install Feisty as a desktop (which has better support for VMware anyway).
Fesity was able to read my network cards no problem. It asked (rougly):
----
Please select your main network card. If possible, your main network card has already been selected:
eth0: Broadcom NetXtreme 1GiB NIC
eth1: Broadcom NetXtreme 1GiB NIC
----
While Dapper states this:
----
Does your computer use Firewire Ethernet? While not probable, it is possible that your Ethernet is set up like this...
----
Then whether I select 'yes' or 'no', it says that it can't find my Ethernet cards.
If Dapper can't find the cards in an already configure virtual environment, then I'll be in big trouble.
So I'm sorry for the vague post, but if your network detection package was backported from Feisty to Dapper, I think this will benefit your LTS.
