Screen flickers during login and artifacs described in #1221745 can be seen on workspace.

3.10.0-7 64 dual monitors on Acer Aspire 5253 with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Wrestler [Radeon HD 6310]

Sept 12 update both monitors have vertical hash lines and severe flickering. Can't do anything.
Did the usual
Ctrl-Alt-F1
login
passwd
sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/10-unity-system-compositor.conf
#type=unity
WriteOut
sudo service lightdm restart

now up and running.

Unfortunately we may never know where the crash originated, due to bug 1237332
