Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

Since yesterday my Gutsy have some problems :
- I can't browse with Konqueror
- Kopete won't connect
- Akregator won't download news

I tried to launch Konqueror in a console to see it there was any output and there is:
ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in /build/buildd/kdebase-3.5.7/./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (81)

I think this may be the problem. I tried to rename my ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/ folder but this didn't help.

Note: I can browse fine with Firefox and aMSN is connecting. This affects only KDE apps.

I just commented to your report on bug 73291. I am not having any problems browsing at all with Konqueror and Gutsy.

Any ideas as to what updates you had yesterday?

Changed in kdebase:
status: New → Incomplete

I'm quite sure that the assertion is not the cause of your network problems, because I've seen this also.

Have you changed e.g. proxy settings?

No I didn't change any settings (proxy...).

I will try to rename my .kde folder to see if it fixes something

Well renaming my .kde folder didn't change anything...

I don't know which update caused this.

Ok I found where the bug -> Knetworkmanager!

Since a few days knetworkmanager is displaying that I'm disconnected whereas I'm connected and I configured my network using it... I closed knetworkanager and internet came back on all my kde apps.

So there are at least two bugs:
- knetworkmanager is displaying that I'm disconnected whereas I am
- KDE apps should be able to connect even if knetworkmanager says I'm disconnected

A friend of mine is experiencing the same problem and he is to one who told me how to get my internet back.

I am using Gutsy and don't see this problem; I use ethernet and wireless.
Can you try the following

1) does KNetworkManager(KNM) disconnect from network frequently?

2) when KNM says disconnected, can you use firefox or ping (just do 'ping www.google.com.com' on a console and see if you can ping the host)
