OpenOffice.org cannot follow .desktop links

I do not know if this is a bug that should be reported here or in the OpenOffice.org bug tracking system, but I am posting here, since I only have a Launchpad user and I have only tried this in Kubuntu.

OpenOffice.org does not follow .desktop links. Instead it opens them as a text file.

Steps to reproduce:
A) Create a .desktop link:
 1: In KDE right click on desktop
 2: Create new > Link to location
 3: Filename: tmp, Link location: /tmp; click OK
B) Try to follow the link in OpenOffice:
 1: Alt+F2
 2: Write "oocalc" [enter]
 3: File > Open
 4: In the Open dialog go to Desktop.
 5: Double click on the link "wc.desktop".
 6: The link file tmp.desktop is opened in oowriter.

The .desktop file contains something like:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Icon=folder_important
Type=Link
URL=$HOME/wc/
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=desktop_kdebase

It works for me in Gnome (Ubuntu Gutsy). What Kubuntu version are you using? Feisty?

Confirmed in Kubuntu Feisty LiveCD.

This feature request works in Gnome, but it was marked as Won't Fix in upstream KDE. You can read this upstream bug or leave comments at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58579.
